In 2024, Crann achieved a remarkable milestone – creating €3.68 in social value for every €1 invested in 4 of the vital services provided to families living with neuro-physical disabilities. This figure is a reflection of meaningful impact, drawn from a detailed Social Return on Investment (SROI) analysis and assured by the Institute for Social Value (formerly Social Value UK).
The SROI analysis was undertaken to better understand the tangible and intangible benefits Crann’s services bring to the clients and families we support. The 4 services in focus were Health and Continence, Psychological Wellbeing, Social Capital and Personal Support & Connection. This rigorous, evidence-based evaluation combines both quantitative and qualitative research methods to provide a holistic picture of this impact.
Demonstrating a high return on investment helps validate the effectiveness of Crann’s programs and supports ongoing improvement, advocacy, and funding efforts. More importantly, it offers a transparent, measurable way to honour the lived experiences and progress of client families.
The SROI analysis reported that by engaging in Health and Continence services, 68% of participants felt significantly enhanced peace of mind & confidence managing their issues. 73% of Psychological Wellbeing participants reported significantly improved mental wellbeing, self-confidence & ability to manage challenges. 59% of Social Capital respondents experienced significant changes in social inclusion, support & independence, while the positive impact of Personal Support & Connection meant 68% reported increased feelings of acceptance & being accommodated.
In short, the €3.68 figure is much more than an economic metric. It is a testament to the positive, lasting change that Crann fosters in the lives of individuals, families and communities every day.
Crann’s approach is deeply rooted in collaboration and co-creation with the families served. Guided by the principle of “nothing about us without us,” Crann ensures that services are shaped by the real needs and voices of client families. This commitment to engagement is formalised in an Engaged Research Policy, which prioritises listening and responding directly to those at the heart of its work.
A big thank you to the participants – the clients and family members who took the time to lend their voices to this research, to Beca Wistreich of The Outcome for applying your expertise in this area, to the Crann team for their stellar work, and to the Hospital Saturday Fund and Tomar Trust for funding this SROI analysis.
