Cork Chamber, the voice of business in Cork, has welcomed the publication of the government’s new housing plan, Delivering Homes, Building Communities, and the measures therein. While the plan’s commitment to housing investment is positive, further measures are needed to improve the viability of housing developments and accelerate the timely delivery of planned projects.
Cork Chamber CEO, Conor Healy, said, “We welcome the commitments made by Government in this plan, but the time for delivery is now. For this to happen, we need to see real progress on key enabling infrastructure, including water, wastewater, electricity and transport. This will require all stakeholders to work together and to take decisive action to remove systemic barriers, including planning delays, and to speed up infrastructure delivery.
"We look forward to the publication of the recommendations of the Accelerating Infrastructure Taskforce in the coming weeks. The implementation of these recommendations will be key to the success of this housing plan.
“Housing supply is vital to Cork’s competitiveness and ability to attract and retain talent and investment. Delivering 7,500–10,000 homes annually is essential and today’s plan is a step forward, but more is needed.”
Cork Chamber will continue to advocate for the timely delivery of much-needed housing developments in the region as the government’s new plan moves to implementation.
