European Film Weekend at Cork International Film Festival 26-28 January

LUX Audience Award Film Weekend returns to CIFF:
View and Rate the best European films for FREE
with Cork International Film Festival, 26th-28th January

Cork International Film Festival (CIFF) will kick off its year-round film and event programme with a weekend of FREE film screenings of acclaimed features short-listed for the LUX Audience Award 2024 and two exciting programmes of European shorts from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th January at The Arc Cinema Cork.

Following its successful launch in March 2023, CIFF is once again offering audiences in Cork a bite-sized European Film Weekend of award-winning features and shorts from across the EU. In partnership with the European Parliament Liaison Office in Ireland and The Arc Cinema, it will showcase feature films short-listed for the 2024 LUX Audience Award (and a chance to rate the films!), complemented by short films selected from the 2023 European Film Academy Short Award nominations and a programme of Family-Friendly Shorts.

The LUX Audience Award screenings comprise: Nicolas Philibert’s On the Adamant (France, Japan); Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren’s 20,000 Species of Bees (Spain); Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves (Finland); and Anna Hints’ Smoke Sauna Sisterhood (Estonia, France). The fifth nominated film, Ilker Çatak’s The Teachers’ Lounge (Germany), will be released in cinemas this spring. MEP Deirdre Clune will be in attendance at the opening screening, On the Adamant, to officially launch the LUX Audience Award Weekend.

The LUX Audience Award aims to strengthen ties across Europe by connecting audiences through cinema and inviting them to become an active part of the European film community  by rating their favourite films. An integral part of these screenings is rating  your favourite film in the largest audience award in the world. CIFF invites all audiences to rate the LUX Audience Award films they’ve watched over the weekend festival or online via a very simple star rating, available on corkfilmfest.org or here. The competition is open until 14th April 2024, with a chance to win a range of exciting prizes, including a trip to the European Parliament to attend the LUX Award Ceremony on 16th April and meet directors and film crews of the nominees.

In addition to the LUX Audience Awards screenings, CIFF will present a programme of short films from across Europe comprising those nominated for the 2023 EFA Short Film Award on Saturday 27th and a CIFF Family-Friendly Shorts selection on Sunday 28th January, also available to book for FREE*.

*FREE but ticketed. All films/shorts programmes must be pre-booked via corkfilmfest.org or myCIFF app.
